Careers
Due to the Covid-19 Virus lots of us are going to have to make drastic decisions about our Careers! Some of us have been laid off, some work is slowing down and some of us are fortunate to be able to work from home so your work will not be affected at the moment. But when all this is over and we are able to go back to our day to day lives what will it be like? Will are jobs be there? Will everything just go back to normal? Well I think not! I think things are going to drastically change. Restaurants, construction companies, lots of small family owned business are going to close or have to limit staff to stay afloat. Bigger companies will have to cut back as well, less travel, less perks so this means airlines will suffer as well as business destination trips.
So what do we do? How do we plan for whats next? These are all thoughts I have been thinking about over the last few weeks. I own a small residential construction company and although we are still working on jobs that are considered essential to get displaced homeowners into their homes things have already changed. Jobs that are booked months out are reconsidering doing their remodels or putting them on hold, some because they are unsure whats going to happen with their current jobs, or because they are working from home, they have their kids home due to school closures and how hard it would be to do a remodel with all the chaos at home.
Now its time to rethink my business, come up with new strategies to keep my business rolling and keeping my employees and sub contractors working along with continued cash flow. We have been in business for over 20 years and we have an amazing reputation and have not had to advertise for over 18 years so I am confident we will have work and survive this as we did the crash of 2008 but none the less we need a strategy plan so not a person I work with is drastically effected by this. Companies that are well established may even do better after this with so many companies that may be closing there doors the ones left standing will get all those customers. I have already started reaching out to more designers, architects and suppliers that can refer us more work. I am even considering advertising to reach homeowners that may have been in the middle of a project and their contractor went out of business so we can help finish any projects they had going.
I realize every business is different but every business will have opportunities to bring in new clients, new business, new customers. You just need to sit, think, reflect and be open for new opportunities to come to your business or into your life. Every morning before I do anything I meditate and ask for new opportunities to flow with ease into my life, into my business and commit to staying out of my own way and allow my life to unfold just as its meant to. I let go of control and become the copilot in my life. Life will turn out just as its meant too so you can allow life to happen to you or let life happen through you, I chose to let life happen through me and my life has been so much easier, when you realize you can’t and do not need to control everything life is so much more enjoyable, less stressful and happier. This doesn’t mean you do nothing, it means you continue to do your part in your life, for your business, and for your family, be aware of new opportunities that show up and do not dismiss them because it does not exactly fit your plan! Please let me know your thoughts.
